Joseph Nhlapo a blogger at Gotta a Quirk, a South African e-marketing blog shares his views on a new internet viral video which has garnered over 5.5 million hits over the last 2 weeks alone. The interesting thing about this video is that it is a social experiment that got me thinking how I would react to the scene in the elevator. I keep thinking I will, without, hesitation do what most alpha males will do but, really, will I? Will I flee, stick around in shock or will I muster the courage to help?
Anyway, this is how Joseph Nhlapo from GottaAQuirk describes the video
The following viral video puts to test human reaction in the face of danger. The video effectively exposes the way ‘crime’ has affected many, evident in their terror by what they meet in this fake criminal encounter. When the video starts, it poses a question: ‘What would you do if you walked into a murder in progress?’
Hidden cameras are placed in an elevator in New York City. Two actors then stage a murder scene for people as they catch the lift. The commuters obviously have no idea that the two men are acting, and so the reactions are genuine. Some flee, others stand and stare, and a few even make either feeble or heroic attempts at helping the ‘victim.’
