This is the inspirational story of a group of disabled Ghanaian sports men with an obsessive passion for skate football.
The documentary preview tells the story of Ghana’s skate soccer team, a cohort of polio survivors who have created a skateboard-inspired version of football adapted to suit their disability. These are men who will usually be seen begging and sleeping on the streets of Accra, Ghana.
For a few hours on sundays all their hustles are relegated to the background as they play skate football at a deserted taxi-rank. They are cheered on by a group who take pleasure in watching them display their skills as they would watching any other group of sports men.
The documentary is made possible (short preview below) as a result of a kick starter fund raising activity that has met its target of raising $40,000 to complete the documentary. One of the documentary’s main supporters is Ghanaian legendary footballer, Michael Essien, who had this to say “When I heard about the project and watched the short film, I was impressed and inspired by what I saw. The fact that these guys do not wallow in self-pity but show character and bravery moved me to lend my support to them with the endorsement”
The documentary is due to be released in July 2013.
