Ghana’s Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson is favourite to become next pope

You may or may not be a betting man or woman, but the bookies do have a knack of making accurate predictions. Two of the most influential bookies in the world, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power have Ghana’s Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson as the favourite to become the next pope after the present pope, Pope Benedict XVI made clear that he is to step down.

Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson was born on 11 October 1948. He was born in Ghana and is currently the Ghanaian Cardinal of the Catholic Church.  In 2003 he was elevated to the cardinalate by Pope John Paul II. Cardinal Turkson once stated that  “if God would wish to see a black man also as pope, thanks be to God”
