Imitating, parodying and re-making the Gangnam Style is nothing new. Putting an African slant to the popular dance style is. The original video by the South Korean singer Psy is notable for becoming the first ever to break a billion views on YouTube.
Here is a typically energetic African version brought to you by Aaninka, a dance group from Cote d’Ivoire. Aaninka and Psy make me nostalgic for the days when pop vocalists were entertainers, not autotuned pole dancers and pious yodelers chosen by game shows.
This is perhaps ot entirely original to ad to the “African Dance crazes” but it’s still one to keep recorded for posterity.
