This is a new viral video brought to you by Mama Hope, the non-profit which says it “believes that the essential first step in changing the world is telling the story of connection instead of contrast and potential instead of poverty and that people everywhere have talent and capacity, and people everywhere share a desire to be able to use those gifts to improve their lives and the lives of the people they care about”
Previous videos released by Mama Hope were the highly successful Stop the Pity; Unlock the Potential and Alex the 9 year old re-enacts Commando.
Their latest video “African Men; Hollywood Stereotypes” has gone viral on YouTube and features 20 year old Gabriel, who is in his second year of clinical medicine in surgery, 23 year old Benard, a third year clinical medicine student, 20 year old Brian, who is in his first year of human resources management, and 21 year old Derrick, who is in his third year of clinical medicine.
Using humour, African Men; Hollywood Stereotypes reveals some of the more distorted stereotypes of African men promoted by Hollywood filmakers. The video’s YouTube description reads: “Wouldn’t it be better if African men weren’t always depicted as warlords or victims?”
