South Africa’s first electric car, the Joule, inches closer to full production

A few days ago Uganda unveiled its first ever home manufactured electric car to much acclaim and fanfare. Another African country, South Africa has been developing an electric car, the Joule, for a few years now. The Joule is a zero emission five-seater MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) designed by South African born Keith Helfet, designer of the iconic Jaguar XJ-220 supercar. The car will be produced at a rate of 50,000 a year at a cost of £23,000 from 2016. The Joule has a top speed of 135 kilometers per hour and a range of 250 kilometers.
