Africa: Mama Hope says Stop the Pity. Unlock the Potential

Mama Hope does it again! The organisation which says it “believes that the essential first step in changing the world is telling the story of connection instead of contrast and potential instead of poverty and that people everywhere have talent and capacity, and people everywhere share a desire to be able to use those gifts to improve their lives and the lives of the people they care about” has released its second video in the Stop the Pity. Unlock the Potential Campaign.

Clever video with some cunning resemblances between two groups seemingly at opposite ends of the economic spectrum. Brilliant message too, even though its one that unfortunately gets drowned out by the Bono-esque version of “poverty” and “famine” porn.

The first video (which came out a few months ago) featured 9 year old Alex who “doesn’t want your hand-me-down t-shirts but if you will listen he will tell you he wants to become president of Tanzania… and, of course, how much he loves action movies!” In the video Alex enacts scenes from the action movie “Commando”.
