A new celebration of African fashion by AfroFanatic

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Ziki Odotte – owner and designer at Afrofanatic – was raised in the arts industry; film and culinary arts to be precise. As a child she was fascinated by outer space and often mused over Mulder’s (from the X-files) conspiracy theories. As the years went by she developed more earthly pre-occupations and dabbled in music and digital animation. Drawing from all these influences and experiences over her lifetime, Ziki brings an eclectic sometimes other-worldly feel to the designs at Afrofanatic.

Her company, Afro Fanatic Ltd. was founded in April 2011. Though it is based in Nairobi, Kenya, it has a global outlook. It specialises in women’s apparel and plans to launch a line of accessories as well as menswear in the near future. As the name alludes, its aim is to portray the beauty and positivity of Africa to the world through fashion.

Afrofanatic announces the official launch of its debut line of women’s wear featuring carefully crafted garments with a unique aesthetic presenting a new take on African Fashion. All about effortless chic and comfortable glamour, this collection tells a story of a tomboy turned lady who still holds on to aspects of her boyish past resulting in edgy, daring, free-spirited looks with bohemian undertones.

Ladies will be spoilt for choice this holiday season as Afrofanatic has something to suit every taste and carries a huge variety of styles. The line showcases long dresses with sweeping hemlines, short dresses with built-up necklines and off shoulder details, pant suits, skirt suits, and an array of tailored trench coats and jackets to beat that chill. Each piece has been designed with versatility in mind, giving the wearer the flexibility to dress it up for that glamorous event or dress it down for an easy day out with the girls. All outfits have been made in African fabric, predominantly ‘kitenge’ cleverly blended with other natural fabrics.

“This debut collection portrays my love for Africa both in the choice of fabric and finishes. It has been inspired by a number of things from African music, food, and art to TCM movies, the femme fatales of our time and Diani – my favourite place on earth for both obvious and more personal reasons. This collection represents a journey for me, a journey of self-discovery which has been embodied in these beautiful clothes. The response has been overwhelmingly positive and I am humbled and grateful for the warm welcome the entire fashion fraternity has afforded me”said Ziki Odotte, owner and head designer.
