sending...A new Miss Universe has been crowned for 2011, the second ever from Africa. She is Miss Angola, Leila Lopes, a business student. Miss Angola plans to use her tenure as Miss Universe to promote HIV awareness worldwide.
In an interview she stated that “As Miss Angola I’ve already done a lot to help my people, I’ve worked with various social causes. I work with poor kids, I work in the fight against HIV. I work to protect the elderly and I have to do everything that my country needs. I think now as Miss Universe I will be able to do much more.”
Last year’s winner, Mexico’s Ximena Navarrete, handed the ceremonial crown to Miss Angola.
