Music Weekly: Shangaan Electro Music

The Shangaan Electro music is in a league of its own. From the hula skirts won by the women dancers to the incredibly fast dancing movements it is clear that this is as authentically “modern” Africa as one can get in musical terms. The Shangaan hail from the Transkei region in South Africa. Two of the videos below feature one of the most popular Shangaan electro groups, the Tshe-Tsha Boys. Their videos have amassed hundreds of thousands of hits on Youtube. This is fresh, super-kinetic and hypnotic stuff that should have caught the world’s attention by now.
