Following its sell out success at the National Theatre – the Broadway hit co-produced by Jay-Z and Will & Jada Pinkett Smith – heads to Sadler’s Wells this summer, bursting with colour, infectious live music and exuberant dance.

FELA! tells the true story of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, whose Afrobeat rhythms ignited a generation. Inspired by his mother, a civil rights champion, he defied a corrupt and oppressive military government and devoted his life and music to the struggle for freedom and human dignity.

 

Choreographed, directed and co-written by Bill T.Jones, a leading light in American contemporary dance, FELA! features many of Kuti’s best known songs and stars Sahr Ngaujah, who has blown critics away with his magnetic performances in New York and London.
