Abhorrent.

To equate a wedding with the wilful genocide by internment and purposeful murder of at least 6 million people is stretching the argument a tad far. The whole point is that this is the usual knee jerk response to a word- no consideration has been taken as to the underlying motive behind the event- so if they’d called it a big game hunt wedding- I suppose all the animal lovers would be crying out about mass genocide of animals and the insensitivity of a wedding themed like that- and if they’d called it a Serbian traditional wedding then presumably we would be harping on about how insensitive it is to the Bosnians cos they were subjected to genocide by the Serbs…….. and so on and so on. Also the point is that this is just plain crap journalism- obviously posted with the view to inciting some response- which is all well and good, but no consideration was taken to 1. check the facts, 2. interview the participants as to their feelings and 3. find out the motive behind the event. I do not see people boycotting video stores that have colonial dvds such as Out Of Africa, nor do I see any response to blatant racist comments that are made in South Africa by the so called non- colonialists.- This post just naturally assumes that it’s white people so therefore they are racists- de facto proving that the person who put up the post is by definition a racist- and a racist remains a racist- I grew up in a world where a similar argument such as your ending one was made (by the white minority)- still didn’t change the fact that it’s racist….

There is no doubt that colonialism has exploited huge swathes of Africa- and no doubt the the previous government was ridiculous in it’s policies- but again we are now 20+ years into a democratically elected, constitutionally representative government- and when last I looked that means that everyone in this country has the right to choose their employer, their working conditions and their rights are guaranteed by law. So if they’re working there it must be because they don’t give a damn about the name- nor do they care about the dress code- which by the way is not colonial at all- but then again the facts have been lost because people are too damn lazy to research the issue properly- they just react- shame on them.

The other issue you raise is the township one- well since we became the rainbow nation I hate to inform you that the practice still continues- however they are now called informal settlements- and houses are still bulldozed to the ground and people are still forcibly removed- just that it’s ok to do it now- and no-one calls this racist and no response is engendered by the so called concerned international community. Weird isn’t it.

Lastly to put the point explicitly- the actions- and as far as I’m concerned the irresponsible actions of this blogger have socio-economic implications- it’s all well and good to engender an outcry but if the place shuts down then there will be a whole lot of impoverished people who have again not got a say- screwed without work and without hope- so while all the so called liberals with their so called outrage at a word go to sleepy byes tonight having vented their outrage at a word- there are real people being affected by this crap- people who suffer and have suffered and continue to suffer- but were given some hope by a so called racist…… Wonder if anyone cares about that- it’s cool to struggle from across the seas- you don’t have to starve– a good friend of mine once said- It’s an African solution to an African problem- lets remember that…..
