I guess if Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man on the Forbes Rich List, can bask in the glow of global recognition that a mention at Forbes accords then why not our pastors? Let’s conveniently ignore the fact that this list is not the real Forbes Rich list for now.
Judging by Bishop David Oyedepo’s wide grin in these pictures of him showing off his new multi-million dollar private jet it seems the men of the cloth are just as determined as anyone else to reap the rewards of their toils right here on earth. Never mind deferring gratification. That is now the preserve of Tibetan monks, an endengered species!
However, as a commentator on this post indicated “Bishop is an excellent man. He teaches his members how to earn success and so that they can acumulate rewards. You too start living right and engage in the business of teaching people how to live by the way you live. I love and wish him the very best. He is a good man at the level of excellence“. Chris Oyakhilome (second on the list) has equally devoted followers who supported him to the hilt when his church charged a “gate fee” for their annual new year day’s church service.
The rest of us can’t help but feel a little uneasy about these super pastors though. Gone are the days when pastors were satisfied with flying (never mind economy class) business or first class on their travels to win souls. Now they need a jet and signed copies of the Forbes magazine to shoo us (mere mortals) out of the way to reach their half starving flocks faster?
